Cultural Trip to Rachaburi, Thailand, International Internship Program 2017

The trip to Ratchaburi

We start leaving from the Mongmod Campus at 7: 30 am and the bus went slowly along the way directly to milk farm. Around 08:30 am we arrived at the milk farm and had got some cheap milk drink at the milk store. I bought a fresh milk since I hardly come to milk farm.  Just for thirty-minute walked around the garden and took some nice photos because we did not allow to get into the farm. Thus, we quickly leave at about 10:00 for visiting Wat Khanon Temple. At there, we had enjoyed the show of Nang Yai Shadow play extracts the epic story of Ramakien in the scenes of “ Hanuman” or “ King Monkey” fighting with the giant. After this wonderful show, about 10:40 am, we had finished our show and take a short tour in Nang Yai Shadow Play museum. There is not only the museum of Nang Yai but also about the story of Ratchaburi province, especially, Khanon Temple. With the treasure of temple characteristic, Khanon Temple had been got interested by King Rama IX and supported to be the Asia-Pacific Cultural Center for UNESCO (ACCU) that is the most interesting local cultural site. No once have seen their time running as it is already 12:00 o’clock because they enjoy their photos which are attracted by these amazing treasure of Khanon temple. Even though, we could stay late for launch we had to leave for next activities. Thus, at about 12:30 we decided to leave the temple directly to Jar restaurant. I want to describe this restaurant with my own words such as a creative modern jar. We already know that jar using for containing water or food, but there they used the jar for containing food and decorating furniture. Because we were getting so hungry we rashly ordered an enormous jar for six people and we finish it by several minutes later. I cannot imagine a jar glass with the drink inside that feeling like you are in the period of Ayutthaya Era. Don’t think about the prize which cost more than 300 baht, but it was free. The launch time is not too long after we had some coconut ice-cream we did not wait back to the bus. At about 1 o’clock we continue our journal to Muang District that not far from the restaurant in the purpose for visiting Ratchaburi National Museum. At 1:30 o’clock we quickly arrived the museum and enjoy the storytelling. I really impressed with these stories such the geology of Ratchaburi province is the interesting historical place to learn. According to the guide introduction Ratchaburi land full of natural resources such as limestone ( cement raw materials), and most other inorganic chemical minerals. Feldspar known as a main component of rock which is found in most of the igneous rock and its type potassium feldspar is great raw materials for ceramic industry. Due to its renders viscosity when melted and then remain unchanged at high temperature, this feldspar is the perfect mineral signature as Ratchaburi province mineral. The pre-history in Ratchaburi also described in the museum. They have mentioned about the ancient treasure that evident about the pre-history people in Ratchaburi through digging site. After an imaginative folktale story, we were going to the room of early history of Ratchaburi that begin from the 7th to 8th century. The evidence from the head of the Buddha with finely modeled serpentine ( eyebrows, flat nose, thick lips, and snail-shell hairstyle) and the Buddha image engraved on the Ngu mountain range. The history turned to Khu Bua ancient city were found with a votive travel

carved notice with the law pillar ( Dharmachakra) of the Dvaravati culture. There some more place to say, but it better moved to 13th century “ Khmer influence” which interested with the similar characteristic of Avalokitesvara which found at  Chom Prasat archeological site inside Kosinarai ancient city, that was made inscription at Pheah Khan in the reign of King Jayavarman VII. That the sculpture was carved from sandstone in khmer-bayon stlye. Soon, next room we had entered the Ayuttya period (15th – 18th century) that depicted the period of Thailand. It was storied about the beginning of Ratanakosin island and the strengthens of Thai. So we have to learn about the ancient daily life, ethic group of people in Ayuttaya and the culture as well as the customs. Then we moved to the perfect time of Ratchaburi with the present of Ratchaburi prefecture Royal Sword that gave by the king Rama VI ( King Vajiravudh). After this block, there are more ancient construction as well as the ceramic factory at Ratchaburi.  We had quickly passed through the story about the king Rama IX his activities in this Province had been recorded at the museum too. Normally, because it was a bit late at the museum we quickly move the bus for ceramic factory visiting. At there, my phone getting die ( lowest battery ) cannot make any photos, but I had enjoy with others and I see some of the craftwork at the ceramic factory. If you see in the photos it does not show how nice view it is, because color will changes from the neck eye to the phone. It was a ceramic palace when you look closely through the background. Yhea, coffee shop and as well as the lobby are cover with ceramic product. But take care, ceramic break could not be faxed. It seem a long time here at the factory because the photos was taken everyone and everywhere. So about 4:30 pm we come back to the hotel. No more description, we took about haft an hour along the way and we arrived the hotel about six past thirty. This the time for dinner at Zar Nham Yha Market that every just leave their luggage and back to dinner before 7: 00 o’clock meeting. After everyone took their nice dinner, they have to back before 7:15 pm for brainstorming activities. I will describe the activities later because after this activities it time to bed. Good night!!
